Democratic Party win Albania’s Election
While the counting of votes of Sunday’s elections in Albania is about to finish with only 200 voting centres remaining to be counted, it seems that the difference in the competition between the right wing coalition led by Sali Berisha and the left wing coalition led by Edi Rama, is quite little, but currently the ruling coalition has ensured 70 seats in the parliament whereas the left wing coalition has 66 seats.
Democratic Party = 46.52%
Socialist Party = 45.67%
Socialist Movement for Integration= 5.57%
Freedom Polls Party= 1.82%
If at the last minute the left wing coalition decides to unite with Ilir Meta’s Socialist Movement for Integration then Sali Berisha would be stepping down from the government. Edi Rama did refuse to unite with Ilir Meta when he was asked before the elections. With only 200 centres to go Edi Rama does not have many options left but either with Ilir Meta or drop the towel and allow Sali Berisha to rule the country for another 4 years.
Officials say Albania held parliamentary elections that were free of incidents that could threaten the country's bid to join the European Union.
The poll is seen as a crucial test of the Balkan country's democracy and readiness for EU membership.
Some 4,300 candidates representing 34 political parties are vying for the 140 seats in Parliament. (Erind Kurti - Albanian Times)
