Kosova Ski Resort to be Privatised
Kosova’s Privatisation Agency, now with a new administration make-up and board, is ready to launch three waves of privatisation including that of ski resort, Brezovica.
Dino Asanaj, the head of the KPA board, reported improvements and advancements in the agency, which this year replaced the former Kosova Trust Agency, KTA.
“The transfer occurred according to the political plan which corresponds to (former United Nations envoy) Martti Ahtisaari’s package (for Kosova’s supervised independence),” he said.
However, many investment reports specifically that of the ski complex at Brezovica, located in south-east Kosova.
“As you all know, Brezovica is a special case which cannot be privatised like other social undertakings but cooperation is needed with the residents of this area,” Asanaj said.
Asanaj stated that Brezovica will be privatised in 2009.
Serbs and ethnic Albanians alike have enjoyed skiing in Brezovica since the resort began operating before the 1998-1999 conflict.
Since then clashes have erupted over the ownership of the ski resort, and many have called for a quick privatisation so that investment can progress for the underdeveloped resort and disputes can be solved.
“In the past three months, we have reached official agency status, have confirmed political operations, worked to return to our environment and our tools, and with a small staff, have been able to announce three waves of privatisation,” he told local daily Kosova Sot.
Peter Grasman, an international staff member of the KPA, said that the transition from the KTA to KPA was very successful.
According the Asanaj, the KPA’s fund is currently around 400 million euros which is present in Kosova’s central bank.
With regards to investments in Serb-inhabited enclaves of Kosova, Asanaj asserted that the KPA’s authority will be implemented throughout the whole territory of the Republic of Kosova.
