Tirana, 1 Feb. 2007 (AENews) - Ministry of Finance signed today an agreement for the repayment of old debts with the Polish government and some companies. Mr. Ridvan Bode, Minister of finance and Mr. signed the agreement on behalf of the Albanian part. Mr. Artur Tomaszewski signed on behalf of Poland. Albania will repay USD 1.25 million on 31 March 2007. Poland has accepted to forgive USD 708,000 from interests.
These debts were created mainly during '86-'90, when the state owned Albanian enterprises were destroyed and had failed to meet their obligations. Albania had signed similar agreements with several countries in an attempt to close financial disputes created during the last years of the communism regime.
"We believe that solutions of such problems will create a better environment for bilateral and multilateral relations", Mr. Bode said today.
