New poll finds freedom of speech worst in Albania

PARIS, France -- Of all former Yugoslav republics, Slovenia placed highest in the Worldwide Press Freedom Index, according to the 2007 ranking from Reporters Without Borders, published on Tuesday (October 16th).

Of all the Balkan countries, Albania had the lowest Press Freedom Index, coming in at 87th.The list, which evaluates freedom of expression in 169 countries worldwide, ranks Slovenia at 22nd, Greece at 30th, Bosnia and Herzegovina at 34th, and Macedonia at 36th. Croatia was at 41st, Romania at 42nd, Bulgaria at 51st, Montenegro at 59th and Serbia at 67th. Kosovo was included as a separate unit, ranking 60th. (A1, Makfax - 16/10/07)
