Tirana: - The Albanian government and the opposition have not yet reached a compromise about their nominee for the president of Albania, raising thus the prospective for early parliamentary elections. After weeks of negotiations, both parties have finally presented their candidates, but refused their opponent’s candidates.
By law, the parliament should vote today for a candidate today in order to maintain the procedure open. If there is not a candidate, then the parliament should be closed and the country should start preparing for elections. Both parties claim that they are not interested in early elections.
