Hundreds of Albanians evacuated from flooded areas
Albanian authorities declared a natural disaster Tuesday in several northwestern regions of the country.
Hundreds of people are being evacuated from parts of northwestern Albania following widespread flooding.
Government officials said Tuesday the army and police are assisting local authorities evacuate areas along the Drini River delta, where heavy rainfall has caused flooding. High tides of the Adriatic Sea are expected to make conditions worse later this week.
Hydroelectric power generated from the Drini River covers the bulk of Albania's energy needs and has not been hindered by the floods. (Albanian Times)
