Kosova Gets Fourth Mobile Operator

22 June 2009 | After winning a tender last month, the public company Kosova’s Post and Telecom, PTK, will power the fourth mobile network in the country.

PTK offered 7.2 million euro in the tender and won against the only other participant, Univers PG, which offered 5 million euro.

The introduction of a fourth mobile operator in Kosova seeks to encourage competition among the country’s mobile networks, Balkan Insight wrote today.

The current three mobile service providers in Kosova include: Vala, Kosova's first and main mobile network, also powered by PTK; the Slovenian company IPKO, which became the second mobile network two years ago and Dardaphone which stepped on the market at the end of last year as a Virtual Mobile Operator.

PTK is the most profitable public company in Kosova, and the largest contributor to Kosova’s budget, according to the publication. The company was also at the lead of a consortium that won a tender to become Albania’s fourth mobile operator. (Source: balkantravellers.com)
