Albania – Kosova Highway GO GO GO…
Tirana – 25-06-2009 - Albania inaugurates the opening of Durres-Kukes highway which connects Albanian sea to Kosova.
Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has invited Kosova counterpart Hashim Thaci and Turkish Prime Minister Rexhep Taip Erdogan in the inauguration ceremony that is being held today.
Inauguration is starting at 11 with an opening concert at the start of Rreshen on the first flyover of the highway which will then follow with a speech from the three prime ministers.
The highway is only functioning with one tunnel whilst the other tunnel is being fixed and should be finished in September. The 160 kilometre highway is to reduce the travelling time from 8 to only 2 hours from Durres to border with Kosova.
Highway is being build by a Turkish-American joint company ‘Enka&Bechtel’. The project was first drawn by the Albanian government in 1999 when Kosova was in the war but it was stuck in the papers until Sali Berisha came to power that work got started. Highway will only function with one tunnel until September. Reporting for Albanian Times Altin Zeqiri)
