Nishani promises identity cards before 2009 parliamentary elections

Tirana, 2 November 2007 (AENews) - Minister of Interior Bujar Nishani told the Members of Parliament (MPs) yesterday that identity cards and digital passports will be ready by the end of the next year, ahead of the 2009 parliamentary elections.

He informed that the process on creating an electronic registry of citizens would start on 5 November. A Socialist Party (SP) MP, Blendi Klosi, said that these objectives could not be met before the parliamentary elections and asked for a question and answer session with the Prime Minister.
