Lincoln Park shooting suspect believed to have died in crash
A 36-year-old man police say is responsible for a shooting at a Lincoln Park restaurant is believed to have died this morning in a car crash in northern Macomb County, Sheriff Mark Hackel said this morning in a news conference.
According to Lincoln Park police, Kastriot (Castro) Mydini is suspected of killing Shpetim Maliqoski, 38, a cook at Dix Coney Island at Dix and Cicotte in Lincoln Park, with a single shot to the head from an AK47.
Police said Mydini was looking for his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Carter, a waitress at the coney island who was on her way to work at the time of the shooting. Mydini instead shot another waitress. The 57-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital after bullets grazed her.
Carter spent the evening at the Lincoln Park Police Department where police said Mydini called her on her cell phone and threatened to kill her and whoever else got in his way.
Police said he fled in a purple minivan, then dropped it off at his sister's house in Southgate, where he picked up her 2004 champagne-colored Lexus.
Police said Mydini walked into a Meijer gas station in Lenox Township at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday demanding that the gas station attendant fill his car's tank. Police said the attendant ran out of the gas station in fear of being shot by Mydini, who threatened him with a gun. Police said Mydini left the gas station with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of juice.
At 11:30 p.m., Richmond State Police dispatch responded to a call from a Speedy Q gas station at 32 Mile and King roads in East China Township in St. Clair County. Reportedly, Mydini walked up to a woman washing windows at the store and ordered her to empty the register's bin and fill his car with gas.
Acccording to the Speedy Q worker's statement to police, Mydini said to her, "I don't want to shoot you. Give up the money," before he was alarmed by a car that pulled into the gas station. Mydini reportedly hid his gun in his jacket and sped away, crashing his sister's car into a combine. He had turned off his front lights when he saw police.
The driver of the combine was uninjured.
The car was traveling westbound near 30 Mile Road and Gratiot. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hackel said fingerprint results later today would confirm the identity, but the description of the driver and the vehicle matched that of Mydini.
Hackel said police found several weapons in Mydini's car including three samurai-styled swords, a meat cleaver, a hatchet and a carving knife found in his sock. (FREEP)
