Albania dominates Malta 3-0 in friendly

TIRANA, Albania: Hamdi Salihi scored late in the first half, and Besart Berisha and Klodian Duro added second-half tallies to lead Albania over Malta 3-0 in a Wednesday friendly to help both prepare for upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Salihi capitalized when Maltese goalkeeper Mario Muscat failed to grab a cross into the area and put Albania ahead in the 34th minute. Berisha pounced a poor backpass to beat substitute keeper Justin Haber in the opening minute of the second half, and Duro tallied from 25 meters to complete the scoring in the 61st.

Malta created few chances in the match dominated by Albania.

Albania next plays the Netherlands at home in a Group G Euro 2008 fixture on Sept. 12, while Malta will host Turkey in a Group C match on Sept. 8.
