26 07 2007 Podgorica- (AT): The state prosecutors of Montenegro and Albania promised Thursday to improve their common efforts to fight organized crime.
Montenegro’s Vesna Medenica and Albania’s Theodory Solaku signed a memorandum on understanding and cooperation in Podgorica that is intended to bolster efforts started four years ago.
“The Balkan region is specific and cooperation in the fight against organized crime is necessary,” Medenica said.
Solaku said improving cooperation is the obligation of Albania and Montenegro as they try to earn membership invitations into the European Union and NATO.
“Organized crime does not recognize borders, and the cooperation is important,” Solaku said. (BIRN)
