A recent report published by the World Bank presented a list of the best suited agricultural products for the Albanian agriculture and the most profitable.
Animal farming products, alcoholic beverages, olive oil, cultivated medicinal herbs and honey were considered as having the best perspective according to World Bank and Albanian specialists.
Currently, Albanian farming products make up about 50 % of the Albanian agricultural production. Medicinal herbs make up an important part of all exports, which during last year reached 6800 metric tons and about USD 15 million in revenue. Albanian medicinal herbs are important especially because of the fact that Albanian sage covers 57 % of the US market consumption.
Olive oil also presents a product with good perspective for the Albanian agriculture. During 2002 olive oil production reached USD 5 million at a 76 % growth compared to 2002, according to the World Bank report.
According to the same report honey production reached 1800 tons during 2006.
