Tirana International Airport successfully manages arrival and departure of U. S. President George W. Bush

Safe and smooth handling of Air Force One Scheduled flights run perfectly despite heavy security following U.S. President

The day after the highly important and successful visit to Albania by President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, Tirana International Airport (TIA) expressed its gratitude to all of the company’s employees that were involved in the preparations to welcome the flight of Air Force One, the official aircraft of the U.S. President.

The arrival of President Bush at 09.30 on Sunday, 10 June 2007 and the departure later that same day, at 17.30, were a great success thanks to the close collaboration and cooperation among Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza, the U.S. Embassy and the Albanian State.

“This was an important event for Albania and its people, but it was also a great event for the Airport. With the visit of U.S. President, the Airport went through a tough test, which it passed perfectly. Our company played a crucial role in hosting this visit and we can all be proud of the way we performed,” said TIA’s Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Rolf Castro-Vasquez.

To ensure the safe and smooth arrival and departure of one of the largest aircraft in the world, a Boeing 747-200B, the Airport had to upgrade all of its security and safety procedures, maximizing its operational capacities.

With the successful conclusion to President Bush’s visit, Tirana International Airport has taken a further step forward to the very top European standards, showing that the Airport is able to handle the largest jets in the world.

As well as accommodating the arrival of this special aircraft and its passengers, the Airport was able to ensure normal operation of the 22 flights scheduled for Sunday. No flight was delayed or cancelled despite the presence of large numbers of security forces and the exceptional procedures that had to be followed.
