The European Commission and Albania held a Working Party meeting; The Commission welcomed the adoption by the Albanian Parliament of many of the recommendations of the Law on Digital Television

On 13 and 14 June the European Commission and Albania held a Working Party meeting in the premises of the Tirana International Hotel.

The regular meetings of the EC - Albania Working Parties allow the Commission and the Albanian authorities to discuss a range of issues related to Albania’s path towards the EU.

On this occasion, the talks addressed the fields of Information Society and Media, Electronik Communications, Labour market and Employment policies, Education and Cultural Co-operation, and Research and Technological Development.

The Albanian authorities described Albania’s progress in these areas and outlined the government’s plans for further improvement. The Commission encouraged Albania to move forward by continuing efforts to implement its priorities European Partnership priorities and its commitments under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.

The Commission welcomed the adoption by the Albanian Parliament of many of the recommendations following the Joint European Commission – Council of Europe review of the Law on Digital Television. The Albanian authorities reaffirmed their commitment to undertaking media reform through the Action Plan agrred with the Commission and the Council of Europe.

The Commission will continue to support Albania in its path towards the EU. The Albanian authorities assured the Commission that they will continue to show determination in fulfilling the commitments they have undertaken.
